My Cat will be put down on Saturday :(

My cat figaro is so old (She's 18) has a messed up thyroid and is constantly starving and forget she's being fed, she doesn't know where her food is when you put it in her her dish, she's having severe skin and hair problems. She's underweight and her hair is so badly matted up that you can't even shave it off. She's incontinent and can't keep her food down. She's in a lot of confusion and pain my parents have decided to put her down.

It's sad she's like my sister I remember getting her when I was three or four and picking her out at the pet shop with my older brother. Cats were my obsession back then so it meant a lot to me. She has lived a great life. A relaxing happy life but she's not happy anymore. Heres a picture of her. She's not well. My mom has many pics of her in her glory days but their all stashed away in a box or album somewhere and my mom is drunk with her freind right now and it's new years eve so she's not gonna jump up and get them right now.

Oh Gluey, I am so, so, sorry. Having put a cat down 3 weeks ago, I know what you're feeling. he was my buddy and a huge part of the family. Sending you lots of hugs.

I'm sorry, Gluey.  She's a pretty cat, but you're right you can see she doesn't feel well anymore.  18's pretty old for a cat.

Don't know how they do it where you live, but here the cat get's a painkiller/sedative first. And you see it relax, letting go of the suffering. And then they get the final shot. But somehow seeing it relax before that, makes clear that you are doing the right thing. No matter how sad it is.

Eighteen is a good innings for a cat. May her going be peaceful, and I hope your mom does, at some point, get out some photos of Figaro as a young cat, so that you can remember her as she was in her prime. Sympathies and best wishes.

That is so sad. Cats have been very important in my life, too. Our cat Puma is getting up there too--his health is OK, but anything could happen anyday.

If you can be there when she's put to sleep, please do. I was so depressed when our family cat Smokey was put to sleep that I didn't go. I'll always regret that. I never got to say goodbye. If there's a Heaven, I plan to apologize to her for being such an asshole.

It sounds like she's had a great lfe though. 18 is a good age for a cat

If theres one thing that gets to me, its bad news about cats. Sorry to hear figaro's party is over. I could put you on my knee and say its not really the end blah blah, but i'm sure you know all that. I don't really know what else to say. Hang in there.
