As Howard Hughes proved, trying to "live with pain" is total BS. After his crash in the XF-11 in 1946, he began to use morphine to cope with the pain of his injuries. He lived for 30 years with chronic pain, and ultimately died of kidney failure. Many doctors agree, that although his death was atributed to opiate addiction, if he WASN'T on morphine, he would've died sooner.
