He is somewhere on the spectrum, but he was more like my daughter, who is autistic, when he was younger.

I did not realize how much he depended on my mother to keep him grounded until she died and he was lost without her.  She was his whole world in many ways.

My father is an aspie (as far as I can diagnose him), but refuses to admit that he is. He's a workaholic and wouldn't be able to take care of his economy, if it weren't for my mother.

i would suggest letting him do it.  live like a bachelor for a few days, then clean up just before PI gets back.  otherwise, all you will be doing is cleaning up.

Dead right. I generally let him get on with stuff like that anyway as long as it isn't seriously dangerous, that way he finds out for himself what things are bad ideas. last time he swung on the fucking thing the shelves collapsed and half buried him in crap. He hasn't done it since.

oh yes.  he'll learn.  i usually do the parenting thing like how things would work for me.
i always learned things the hardway, never believing it til i saw it for myself.  i just try to keep a watchful eye, like you, to make sure its not too dangerous.

In Windows, yes. And only from one stable version to the next. Me, I run Debian and wonder what the 2.0 beta would do to my system.

I don't have really automatic updates other than on my antivirus. I have automatic reminds about updates.

yes, i do also.

sometimes when i run the updates myself it cocks up my computer (internet access, mostly) so i have to reset my computer to an earlier time to fix the damn problem.
