Going through my old backups, hoping that some of the stuff that was lost in my HDD crash is on a CD or DVD somewhere.

Yes, one of the HDDs died on me. It managed to freeze everything so I thought the EIDE bus had died, too, but it turns out that I can boot if I disconnect the failed drive altogether. It goes looking for the drive, for some reason, but it could have been worse. I'm completely paranoid now, though, cos the pooter is six years old and has been used every day, sometimes around the clock. The processor fan is already making funny noises, too.

I'm probably going to buy a new pooter now. The fear stresses me out completely.

And, of course, a lot of the music I had on that HDD is gone. I don't have complete backups.

I know I should have backed it all up, but you know how a HDD actually feels like a "safer" option than a CD/DVD? I've been meaning to do it. 

I should get a RAID stack and do scheduled backups.
