Very true McJagger

I have written to my MP and Health Service about the lack of ASD-specific service provision in my area

There was a Draft Future Mental Health Strategy document for my local Health service put out to the public for consultation earlier this year and in 50-odd categories there was no mention of ASD's - Personality Disorder got it's own category though!!!

I assumed we were being included in with the Learning Disability category but often when people with a AS try to get funding or support services via the LD or Mental Health route they are often denied them through not fitting the category

currently, i have been in this ongoing negotiation with my daughters elementary school over her IEP program, trying to get specialized interrests courses added for her.

currently she really likes drawing and colouring on paper and folding them into fans.

i just think that if she could have a portion of her day (very small) dedicated to what her current special interest is, then it would help her to focus more on school work.

its just that as the day goes on,m she loses interest as her mind starts to wander.  the first thing she tells me after school is decisions she has made about her special interest.  that tells me that she probably shuts down (at some point) alltogether.  i can't see how that is beneficial to her studies.

i am working on a name for my proposal, i am thinking about calling it: release time.

Sounds a really good idea - making it more formal by writing an actual proposal is a very good idea
as well-documented things are more likely to be taken on board

Stick in a few supporting references from Tony Attwoood, Lorna Wing etc to make it look more evidence-based
as well!

I was on a mission to a) get back at a site that appeared to have a reputation for bullying and b) test out what the site was capable of in terms of nastiness

I often have a tendancy to act before thinking

I'm not a plotter - it's not in my nature

sounds like me, lol.

i figure i can always clean up my mess later.
but if i spend my time thinking about it before hand i will always talk myself out of it.  then i would never experience anything.

I agree with what you said about people striving to earn their own money, but I think the point a lot of people miss is that just because someone doesn't currently have a job it does not mean that they aren't trying to find a way to work.  I think people get so annoyed when people seem to be looking down on others for not having a job because they aren't completely happy about the fact themselves.  Its hard enough feeling yourself that you're not a good enough person because you've not manage to cope in a job without having other people use it as an attempt to put you down.

And I question since this is your ask me thread:  If you could change 3 things about the world what would they be?

I think the site is 'sharper' than other sites I've been on; it has a greater propensity
for nastiness when provoked

In school there were the 'swotty' kids who behaved themselves and didnt question authority
(ie me) then there were the 'smoking behind the back of the bike sheds' brigade - this site is
the AS equivalent of this type, in my opinion

This is not a criticism, just a differentiation of two 'types' - obviously inbetween these 2 extremes there are
infinate variations ie many people with a foot in both camps

The mistake I have made is in thinking that all people with AS would be, by default, swotty types
when in fact we cover the whole spectrum of behaviour

rules?
again, what are they?

i tend to think that rules are made by those that they would most benefit.  but to me, they are meant to be manipulated to serve my particular interests.

'If you could change 3 things about the world what would they be?'

That is too general a question for me to easily answer

1. I would make people more accepting of difference

2. By enforceable law I would make wealthy countries/companies put back a set percentage of their profits back
    into society

3. I would make voting legally enforceable and more issues dependant on a democratic vote

I like rules - you know where you are with them

They provide consistency and protection for the more vulnerable members of society
