Being charged $25 to check one small bag from DC to Syracuse via Boston. Now I have to charge the American taxpayer to reimburse me for the official travel expense. That's fucked up on soooo many levels. I am required to fly contracted flights at 2-3 times what I would pay booking independently, then get charged for one freakin' bag!

And it all comes out of the American taxpayers' pockets!!!

For environmental reasons I do not have business cards. The previous program I worked on had me travelling two weeks per month, including 3-4 trips to Germany, since it was a joint program. My current program doesn't travel much. This is my first trip in the two years since I started this program. The Program Office in DC makes everyone travel to DC for meetings, which is local travel for me.

You are allowed one carry on size bag and one personal item (like a laptop computer bag) that you can take on the plane with you, but I agree $25 to check a bag is ridiculous.

They do that to stay in business and it's also to get passengers to bring less items so they can lighten the load. The lighter the stuff, less gas they use. I remember how we went out to Wisconsin in summer of 1992 and boy did it look like we were moving because we had a bunch of boxes with our toys in it and other things and today it would have cost us a fortune.  We were going there for a few weeks and mom said it was our new home and we live there now lol.
