IMO us in the West are being manipulated by our so-called leaders and the media into hating Muslims, just as they are being manipulated by their so-called leaders and media into hating us. The sensible ones realize that stereotypes do not equal entire cultures, and evaluate people (as Korzybski suggested) as individuals-as-a-whole rather than as part of a group. Ergo, you don't say semantic nonsense like "All Jews/Muslims/Xtians" are, you evaluate them on a case-by-case basis: Muslim₁, Muslim₂, etc.

I'm not gonna try and stop people practising their reliigon if that's what they wanna do. I just think Islam is a complete load of shit. Sure, I don't know it in detail. But even if the rest of it is a "peaceful" religon, the stuff that I do know outweighs that.

I actually feel more strongly about disestablishing the Church of England than I do about anything to do with ISlam. But the Islam stuff tends to get more attention because you're racist if you don't like them.

No, you aren't. The technical term is bigot.

Edit: I'm sort of kidding--no, you are not necessarily a bigot if you don't like Islam. You become one by generalising, by saying that every Muslim is (something or the other) because you've seen a few like that. There's a big difference.

I don't know many Muslims, if any at all. I can only go by what is in the media, and the papers and TV paint a nasty picture of them. That doesn't mean ALL of them are like that. It's basically the teachings that have come from their Imams and scholars that have made them into what they are, and the fundie/sharia ones are the extreme example. Christians have their lot of arseholes as well - but with them the media etc paints a picture of sweetness and light about them, even though they are as rabid as the fundie Muslims. That is one of the main reasons I became pagan, becuase I thought that the representation we were getting of religion, the beliefs behind it, and the practicing thereof was all being manipulated. Governments, church groups, media etc are the real ones to blame for all this hatred and stereotyping, and the teaching by each of the religions also goes a long way toward spreading this hatred.

I mean, why do they always talk about a 'god of love' when so many people are being killed in the name of this god, whether it's Allah or Jehovah? Fucking bullshit logic.
