What to do next.

You should plant hidden caches of food around your home and work so you never go hungry.

Tried that. Things started to smell and only then did I remember where I put it all. :P

Bags of chips would keep well! Try hiding those! They are your favorite, after all.

Why is humour so variable and personal?

Because this.

I am the passion; I am the warfare.
I will never stop...
always constant, accurate, and intense."

Why do I always mishear these lyrics as "home of gay"?

It makes me ridiculously amused to a very pathetic level  :P

Pondering on the relation between rain and hayfever.

Things seem to be odd.

Yesterday we had the first whole day of rain in a very long time. This morning someone said he could not come, because of a massive hay fever attack. Last week he seemed to be fine. We had days that even made me sneeze a lot.

Curious.

and mildew.  My allergies will usually happen within 12-18 hours of a good rain.

Okay, the world is definitely coming to an end.  Life as we know it is altered forever.  Hold on to your hats.  There is something this know-it-all doesn't know.  (Can you believe it?)

Is it better to peel turnips and rutabagas with a paring knife or a vegetable peeler?  When I use a knife I lose a lot of the inside, but my instinct tells me that if it "pops" off with the peel, it's probably woody.  But if I use a peeler then I would have more turnip, but maybe more stringy flesh.

Bear in mind that turnips aren't a common veggie in New Orleans and it's a little tricky to find them, so I don't have them often, although I like them very much.

I go for the knife method. First slicing the turnip though. Slices are easier to peel relatively thin, and you can see what parts are woody or not.

Yeah, he keeps saying it is just hay-fever, I think there are some other allergies kicking in now too. He won't see a doctor though. His choice. Does mean he keeps changing plans on seeing the kids though.

I love turnip!  Sometimes the supermarket sells turnip already peeled and cut into chunks, I'm hoping to get some soon!

I tried looking for canned turnips and frozen turnips, but evidently they're not available here.  So I had to get the unprocessed ones.  I'm going to do that Irish/Scottish dish where you mix potatoes and turnips and mash them.  I need to find lower carbs and turnips are lower than potatoes.  Might throw in some mashed cauliflower too.

Thanks, I'll try cutting it first.
