Yeah, just found out abour an hour ago.  Low of 29 for about 5 hours.  Not too bad. 

And when did you stop using ya'll and start with you guys?

I still use "y'all" when I speak, but "you guys" more often when I write.

I remember getting snow one time not that far north of you and the pipes froze even though I left the water running all night long.  If any pipes pass through the wall of a room that's colder than the rest of the house, be sure to open the heating vents and the door in that room to keep it warm.

We only have one outside pipe wall, in the kitchen.  One of the cabinet doors fell off, so it's warm in the pipe spot.  Surprisingly we've never even had the pipes freeze in the outside laundry room, although I wait until the temp is over 40 before I do laundry.

That's good.  How long has it been since you have had the temperature go down to 29 there?

That year we had snow and my pipes froze, I lost my agapanthus, which I had planted in the ground and covered with a deep layer of mulch.  Of course the campus also lost lots of palm trees as well.  I never realized until they fell that they were so heavy and they stank until they could be removed.

I was reading this and going to mention leaving that cabinet open but if the door fell off even better. :lol:  If you ever have a problem with it cut out the sheetrock and replace it with the metal grills they use in radiator covers to let the heat get to the pipe.  I have done this for several people

It gets down to the high 20's maybe once a year.  Lake Pontchartrain is to our North and the water holds a lot of heat, so the cold air is warmed somewhat when it goes over the water.  It has to get below freezing for about 4+ hours to cause damage to the non-tropical plants.  I make sure I don't buy tropicals.

One of the best things I have found to cover plants with is a flannel backed plastic tablecloth.  The plastic keeps the flannel dry, the flannel keeps the plant warm and keeps the leaves from freezing where they touch the tablecloth.  Usually can pick up some fairly cheap at the seasonal closeout sales.  Just pin them every which way with clothes pins.

I wrap the the faucets with a face/wash rag and a bread bag around that, tied up with string.  The water line into the house has the insulating tubing on it.
