Work
« on: May 20, 2009, 03:23:29 PM »
Work has been slow for me so I have been looking at what to do about it and stumbled upon a job I would really like but there are 30 or so people going for just to positions.  Already took the test they will call next week if they want to interview then the fun begins they require a hair follicle drug test and extensive background checks including one with the Department of Homeland security :o By looking at the others in there I don't know how many of them will pass those if they passed the tests even.  Well here I am going back on my statements in the past of refusing to do drug tests but the job is so sweet I can't help it.  It still makes me feel like a hypocrite though.  Any thoughts?

What are your objections to drug tests?
You'll never self-actualize the subconscious canopy of stardust with that attitude.

Many for one my Rx will show up and I will have to explain it which is none of there business and I feel will adversely affect how they feel about me
I have no problem if the test shows if you were under the influence but they only show that you did them not if you where at work at the time.
They don't test for alcohol which is far more pervasive in the work place
In the past I have worked places that used them to fire people while they turned a blind eye to others

I understand in cases of public safety for the most part ,which this job concerns, but for the majority of jobs it's just a tool used by insurance companies not to pay out and the company to save in their insurance.

It's like the seat belt laws do you believe the real reason is to save people?  They were pushed by the insurance companies lobbyist to cut back on there payouts saving people means they don't have to pay as much.

In the end it's all about money

I agree with drug tests in cases where there is a legitimate safety concern like for bus drivers or someone like that, but I did not see the point of drug testing EDS employees who were going to program computers.  My husband took the hair follicle drug test when he went to work for them, but they also disapproved of having alcoholic drinks at lunch and then going back to work.  They could fire you for that.

What is the job?

I've never been for them, not that I have anything to hide, mainly because I trust no one.

But I think it would depend on the job, if it was tempting enough I'd probably go ahead with it.

This one wants a hair follicle drug test also.  As for what it is working with very large quantities of hazardous materials

I hope you get the job, parts. It sounds good.

I have not heard of a hair follicle test before. But I have heard that workplaces test for amphetamines and marijuana the most. They should test regularly for alcohol.

Work was the first four-letter word in the English language and still threatens this planet.
