Pancakes with lingonberry jam. Typical Swedish Thursday food.  :viking:

Why do Swedes eat pancakes on Thursday? :blonde:

Because a Swedish King was once poisoned on a Thursday. He had pancakes and pea soup. At least according to the legend.  :orly:

Aha...so, did you have pea soup also?

No, not today, though Thursday is typically the day to eat pea soup too.

Tuesday is fish eating day and Saturday and Sunday are steak days.

What are the stories behind those customs? :P

Traditions of some kind. They often had fish for Tuesday and steak for Sunday in the convents.

My favourite pizza place actually serves salmon pasta on Tuesdays. Yummy.  :viking:

I think it's funny. They have sent it for over 50 years now. The oldest movies there are from the 1930's. Even if you can watch it all on Youtube today, most Swedes still watch Donald on Christmas Eve.  :viking:

I think it's "raisin bran," with a little commentary on its lack of flavor. :zoinks:

And you eat tuna in memory of this king because he was good, celebration because he was bad or just playing food russian roulette?

BTW I had a tuna sandwich today, just because it was in the house.

We eat tuna because it's good.  :P

The story about this king is kind of cool. He went mad and personally killed some aristocrats he held a grudge against. So his two brothers, who also wanted to be kings, put him in jail. There he was supposedly poisoned by arsenic oxide, put in his pea soup. No one knows if it's true, but it's not impossible that it is:

I didn't know that. Or maybe I did but I certainly didn't remember. :plus:

Steak is considered to be "better" food and Sunday dinners when you can indulge in something like that. Saturdays.have no special significance other than these days people have the time to cook during weekends.
