Two Dunkin' Doughnuts Coffee rolls, chased with a small cup of their godawful coffee, followed by a marginally better redeye ( Dark Roast coffee spiked with Espresso) at the Caribou coffee in Founder's Hall, Downtown Charlotte.
Lunch was at the new Yupscale Presto Grill in downtown Charlotte. Hummus and Tzatziki appetiser with a Chicken Rollup thing that was a closer in articulation to a Shwarma than a Gyro. Let me tell you about the old Presto Grill.
The original Presto Grill was dingy little shithole of a greek diner right next to the Greyhound station. I don't know how old it was, but the interior was probably the original that was installed in the late 40's or early 50's. Directly above it was a seedy flophouse hotel that seemed to cater to Crackheads and drunken bums. If you could brave getting into the place without being spanged by a bum, (Common occurrence) or being robbed, (Not an uncommon thing),possibly shot or stabbed (happened a few times in that general vicinity) and could standed being treated like a bum yourself by the owner when he looked up from his Greek newspaper, and could further survive rude treatment from the waiter or waitress on duty, you would be rewarded by the best Gyro plate that Charlotte had to offer for a pittance of about $5. I could not find a better one during the 8 years that I lived there. -- It's all gone.
The new place has that once kind of neat, but now soulless 'Corporate Chic' look that Starbucks has. The low prices are gone as well. Total cost of lunch was $17.20
