SEOUL, South Korea – South Korean scientists say they have engineered four beagles that glow red using cloning techniques that could help develop cures for human diseases. The four dogs, all named "Ruppy" — a combination of the words "ruby" and "puppy" — look like typical beagles by daylight

Makes me think of a comical scetch I saw a few years ago, about a scientist genetically changing dogs so that they would poop in fluorescent blue. Making sure that you'd not step into dogshit at night.

And sorry, sordid mind of mine. These fluorescent colours, are they approved by the food and drug department?

I can do upside down chocolate moo things!

In Boulder, Colorado, a woman got a $1000 fine for coloring her white poodle pink with organic beet juice to promote breast cancer awareness.

She was taking it to court to appeal it, but I don't know how it turned out.

Boulder has a stupid law that was made to lkeep people from dying chicks, bunnies, "or any other animals" for Easter and this law was applied to the poodle's owner.

Quote
The law at issue is city ordinance 6-1-14, titled, "Dyeing fowl and rabbits prohibited." It states, "No person shall dye or color live fowl, rabbits, or any other animals."

The ordinance, enacted in the 1980s, recently garnered national attention when a woman was given a ticket — which could come with a $1,000 fine and possible jail time — for coloring her poodle Cici pink.

Joy Douglas said she only stains Cici with beet juice as a way to promote breast-cancer research. And, Douglas said, she plans to fight the citation because the law wasn't written with her situation in mind.

"It was instated to prohibit the dyeing of Easter bunnies in an inhumane way," she said this week.

Pedersen, the Humane Society's CEO, said Douglas is right about the law's genesis.

"The ordinance was written in the 1980s to prevent the harmful practice of dyeing rabbits and baby chicks for Easter," she said. "'Other animals' was included to ensure any type of animal was protected."
