My father had a grey '70 and a white '71. From 1973 the bumpers became bigger and the speedometer changed from that funny "rolling" thing to a more conventional. That on the pic is actually a '74, but except for the front light wipers it looks just like a '73.

The bumpers on my 142 were all metal, as far as I remember. And I had that funny speedometer.

My grandfather had a 1967 144 De Luxe Sport, one of the first 140 series cars.

here's what google suggested. i have to go this way because some of my stuff is at my mother's summer house near danbury connecticut. i am stopping in atlanta to visit my dad. i am not stopping anywhere else because i fear swine flu.

when i come back in June i will be doing the I-95 route. it will be around the 19th or 20th of June and I will take two or three days as I intend to stop along the way. if the flu outbreak continues i won't stop along the way.

trivia: when i was a kid my family would go on annual trips to the danbury fair (state fair, i think). we would go with a group on a bus and have a big cookout at the end of the day.

the day after i got my license i went on a trip to philadelphia PA (from New York City) - i rented a car and the rental agency didn't want to accept the temporary license but i talked them into it.

my first car was a 1963 chevy impala with an am only radio which only made it more awesome.

the longest i've driven so far was from Ft Wayne IN to Springfield MA in one day. there was a blizzard and they ordered cars off the road but i figured that meant less traffic so i kept going. i also thought that if i stopped at a rest stop they might prevent me from going back out on the road.

route 66 is on my bucket list

Cool.

Have fun and be safe.

I used to go to southwest Florida a couple times a year.

I have driven several segments of Route 66, but not the whole thing.

The longest I have ever driven with me doing all the driving myself was from Birmingham, Alabama to San Antonio, Texas and back. but I have been on even longer road trips.

If you go practically anywhere in Australia, it's a road trip and you need to take a packed lunch. ;)

I like to drive on my own the most and I like other types of solo journeys as well.

Hoping you have a nice time on the road, neurowolf. :) I understand your excitement!

Now I've got that Don Spencer tune running through my head, renaeden. :)

Your neighbour in the city is living right next door
And what could be your ceiling could be your neighbour's floor
But your neighbour in the outback could be so far away
If you went to visit them, it could take all day...

There's a lot more of Australia out the back
The greater part of every state is off the beaten track
Though most of us live on the coast, you can't escape the fact
That there's a lot more of Australia out the back.

Hope you enjoy your drive, neurowolf.

D - 2 and i am packing and filling out my last time sheet. tomorrow i wait for a call from the doctor and meanwhile take some things to the salvation army and pack up the car. i'll drop off my timesheet and pick up phil, my 31 year old elephant ear philodendron, from work. then a good night's sleep and off to boston for a doc's appointment on day one. i'll try to post from the road.

mmmmm.....69....

it's an acquired taste...tuna...no...pie. Definitely pie.

D was for day, R is for road.

R - 11.5 (approximate) hours and counting. almost finished packing. i will go to my doctor's appointment, return here to pick up junk and coffee, then drive to my mom's house, where i will pack and enjoy one last cool night.

at about 7:30 pm i will head west on I-84 on my way to florida. If i pick up a hot spot on a rest stop i will post, otherwise it will be whimlike because it sucks to post from my phone.  i'll tip my hat in connecticut and virginia - maybe i'll catch you on the way back as my plan is to go up I-95.

I didn't get phil or some meds i am supposed to cpick up - whether i do depends on if i am running late. i want to be out of springfield by 2pm.
