oh, look at me laughing until i can't breathe...  ::)

i do know the guava, but i don't really fancy growing one - if i had room for another fruit tree (and wasn't planning to move shortly), there are loads of others i'd plant rather than guava.

have you three (you, pete, and pea) looked into the guava more.

I'm all out of space too for more trees; between the climbing fig, peach, a couple of bay trees and my beloved pagoda tree, I think I've got enough exotics for the moment.

its just that it has that single pink flower and they are durable as hell.
even queen omega could keep one and not kill it.

lol.  plants like that are great.  but i'm such a perverse gardener - things which are supposed to be easy as fuck to grow die on me (i have killed off mints, for fuck's sake), and things which are notoriously difficult to grow just spring up, practically in my footsteps (i grew french tarragon in london clay, and it went berserk - peter will tell you how bizarre that is).

My experiences so far with french tarragon have been that the naked snails love it and will strip a plant bare overnight, then chew down the remaining stem the next night, so I can't really comment on soil suitability.  I prefer things that the slugs won't touch, like sage and rosemary, or things that can outgrow the damage like mint.

true about the bastard snails and tarragon - the reason i'm not growing any at the mo is that the FUCKERS stripped both of my small plants down to fuck all.  do not remind me - i am still traumatised.   >:(

We got a few of them down at the hospice. I water 'em myself, and god how they blossomed. ;D
