You might not be correct but at least you're always Right.

I looked him up. He seems like a bit of a nut, with ideas like globalization means the end of historical progress (I think because of the idea that countries are too interlinked to compare themselves to each other anymore, which is bullshit - even units as small as a family compare themselves to each other and it has nothing to do with how integrated they are into larger systems or whether they're at war with any other families).

Do you have to study him for a class or something?

I have to do a five minute speech on him at the end of this week. Most of it has to be based on a reading I have which I can't understand. The author of the reading who wrote about Baudrillard couldn't seem make up his mind whether he was writing about Baudrillard himself or other people that I think he would have preferred to write about.

Ah, makes sense. I looked up the wiki page ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Baudrillard ), it has a pretty good summary. Maybe you could figure out which ideas your reading is talking about (his object value system? his thoughts on wars?) and then read about those things on the wiki instead.

I do - in fact if you give me the details I can write you a presentation on it (or explain the articles that you don't understand on him). Its not like I don't have to study him anyway. This might be an interesting starting point (I assume that your uni can access this link?)

No no - that is actually a very sensible argument from an IR perspective and fits very well with the current mainstream political thought (i.e. Realism, whose wisdom is basically timeless). Basically the argument is that the entire international system is fundamentally an anarchy of states, which compete with one another in order to fulfil their own objectives. Globalisation removes this anarachy and thus the incentive. Its almost like comparing capitalism and communism here.

Among persons I know or among strangers but upset: outspoken. Among strangers but calm: pretty quite.

:plus: for your offer and the link.
The link worked and it was interesting to read. Interesting to note Baudrillard's influence on The Matrix.
My speech on him was to do with simulations and hyperreality. Because there are so many examples of hyperreality, it was easy to make the speech five minutes long, heh.

Ha - well it sounds like you put together an interesting speech on him, I would have probably played a clip from the matrix for my presentation or something if I had to do it myself (bear in mind I do these things like 5 mins before having to do them)

How come you get to do that kind of philosophy anyway. I never get to properly study it myself.

The only technology in our tutorial room is an overhead projector, heh.

The class I am doing is what is known as a Foundation Unit at my uni. All first year students have to do one. The unit I am doing is called Structure, Thought, and Reality (STAR). I liked the description of the unit. Most of the other ones were about Australia and sustainability and I find those subjects boring.
