Problem solving
« on: November 30, 2008, 11:00:50 PM »
This is probably tied into the TOM thread but its another of those things that have been bothering me lately.  Why why why are so many people so bad at it.  For me it's a game and a fun one at that but so many people just don't even try they just sit there stupidly waiting for things to rectify themselves or pay people like me to figure it out.  Can't others see what I see,  cant they put their common sense to work.  So much of what I have to explain to people is so clearly evident.  It disappoints me people have such limited grasp of the world around them.  This isn't just stupid people I have worked or talked to all types.

That's funny because I  remember reading when I was 16 aspies are bad at this. I suppose it has to do with social skills and communication and that is our area we struggle in.

Wait, what problem solving are we talking about?

I think that different people have different problem-solving skill sets, so no, not all people see what you see.  It might be perfectly clear to you and unclear to many other people.  There could be other things that are completely clear to them but that you or I could not understand.

When I wonder out loud why other people don't understand things that seem obvious to me, my husband often reminds me that half the people are on the left side of the bell curve, but I think it's a lot more complicated than just IQ.

If everyone could solve the same problems as you, then you would probably be out of work - or flipping burgers at McDonalds, say.

The easy answer is that people are stupid, mainly.

i am not good at problem solving. my high iq is no help to me because of my adhd. when i can slow down enough to realize there is a problem and if i don't get overwhelmed with other thoughts, then usually i can solve things.

Certain parts of my job involving layout and calculations really mess with some people that I work with. A lot of the solutions are in knowing simple shit that is spelled out in our trade publications, but some of these guys are too lazy to crack a book or try to memorize shit. I don't let it bother me most of the time since it has kept me working.

I know what you mean. I had to deal with some stupid Vista bullshit on my laptop so I just Googled the problem.
No need to pay someone for their skills.

But ignorance is what makes the smart problem solvers thrive more and possibly become extremely wealthy.
