social democracy ftw :P

Depends on who defines it. Either one of us could do it, but we have little to gain or lose.

Everyone in power makes it work in their own favor, unfortunately. Not much different from where we are, now, but we have a mostly untried chemistry to deal with from this day and on.

I was under the impression that Obama will pick a lot of experienced people to his administration. :-\

I am always very suspicious of the trendy, with-it, chic, hip fads, like electing a young, inexperienced black-ish president and most particularly when the  objet la mode  happens to have the gift of charismatic, alluring dazzle and enchantment, loaded with the magic of pizzaz, splashing the hustle of righteousness, sublime rectification, corrective betterment and discipline to the point of glamorous Juju to everyone in earshot.

:hides mojo:

It all seems too good to be true.

I believe we're beguiled by a "wixard" of phylacterous allure.

Right now, let's hope it's true. Plenty of time to get disenchanted later. God knows the globe needs it.

Sorry, I was on a roll. I had to keep going!

... but, yeah. You're right. We should, at the very least, allow him a long rope.

great word, dawg!   :plus:

but i don't get how you used it in that context.  i thought it meant the little leather boxes containing prayers that jewish men wear.  (or, possibly, anything housing a holy relic).  ???

like Jon Stewart said, i look at him and i see a human. he said it jokingly but i know he meant it, and it was true. 99% of politicians are not human. i see Obama really cares, and he is an actual person. that's why i'm so excited, not just cuz he's black. he's someone whose integrity i trust.

i don't wanna sound corny but i think we've been given a gift here and we should drop the cynicism for once and just see what comes.

Of course, that's more common, but I was dipping back into the Greek roots of original usage and bastardising it with modernistic English suffixes.

Phylactery
Phy*lac"ter*y\, n.; pl. Phylacteries. [OE. filateri, OF. filatire, filatiere, F. phylact[`e]re, L. phylacterium, Gr. ?, fr. ? a watcher, guard, ? to watch, guard. Cf. Philatory.]

1. Any charm or amulet worn as a preservative from danger or disease.

2. Any charm or amulet with powers of magic.

3. Among the primitive Christians, a case in which the relics of the dead were inclosed to prevent the escape of magical properties.
