Lol- don't you hate that? I like lucifer's idea for high- and low- lights. It's not 'out there' IMO, and a nice step-down from the blonde (as opposed to going right to pure brunette, or black).
Whatever you do, some advice borne from my own past hair mistakes: do NOT dye your hair all black, especially not from blonde because it's such an insane contrast, unless you're REALLY sure you want black hair. Black dye doesn't come out very easily unless you process it out or highlight it out (which granted did look cool); you also can't really color over black dye because the new color won't show up.
